DHS director's appointment challenged in High Court

PANAJI

The appointment of Dr Medha Salkar as Director of Health Services has been challenged before the High Court of Bombay at Goa.

In a petition filed before the High Court, Dr Saleena Naik has challenged the State government's July 31 order appointing Dr Salkar as Director of Health Services, contending that the appointment was made in contravention of the applicable recruitment rules and overlooked the claims of eligible senior officers.

Dr Naik has claimed that she is the senior-most eligible officer entitled to be considered for promotion to the post and that the government unlawfully bypassed the established promotional channel while making the appointment.

She has thus sought to quash the July 31 order and direct the State government to appoint her as Director of Health Services. It also prayed for an interim stay on Dr Salkar's appointment until the matter is finally decided by the court.
