Dialysis facility at Asilo, Ponda govt hospitals

Mumbai-based Apex Kidney Care to provide service

MAPUSA
The State government is set to provide dialysis facility in Mapusa and Ponda government hospitals soon.
The plan is to set up a 10-bedded dialysis unit each in North Goa District Hospital (Asilo) Mapusa and the Sub-District Hospital at Ponda-Tisk.
The tendering process has been completed and Apex Kidney Care, a Mumbai-based dialysis centre, has been identified to start the service in the two hospitals.
"Apex Kidney Care, a dialysis centre from Mumbai, has been identified and they will be setting up the dialysis units in government hospitals in Mapusa and Ponda," said Dr Jose D'Sa, Deputy Director, Public Health Services.
He said details were being worked out and in the final stage Apex Kidney Care will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Goa government.
"The State government will set its terms and conditions and once everything is in place the Mumbai-based dialysis centre will sign a MoU with the Goa government," De D'Sa said.
Officials of Apex Kidney Care have inspected the space allotted to them in the two hospitals and were satisfied with the arrangement, a source in the know informed.
The dialysis facility will come as a big boost for kidney patients in the North, as a dialysis unit was a long pending demand from the people in Bardez and far North.
The Medical Superintendent of Asilo, Dr Geeta Kakodkar has informed that the service of Histopathology will also be soon provided in the district hospital.
Histopathology involves examination of a tissue (biopsy) to find out abnormalities as a result of diseases. "This facility has already been sanctioned to the district hospital," Dr Kakodkar said.
