He was speaking during a visit to the campus at Bal Bhavan and government primary school at Aquem
on Saturday.
Kamat made a fervent plea to the school authorities to allow children to play traditional games.
“Unlike in the past, the school has now got a campus with the construction of a compound wall secured by a gate. Children should not only be imparted teaching, but it’s also important that children get to play traditional games in the school compound,” he said, as he planted a number of saplings in the school compound.
Kamat said his dream to get the Bal Bhavan and the government primary school under a common campus at Aquem stands fulfilled.
“This area was acquired by the government but was never utilised. I decided to utilise the acquired land for the school building along with schools for Moti Dongor, and an Urdu and Hindi medium school at Khareband as well. Bal Bhavan was later brought under it,” he said.
Saying that the construction of the compound wall has ensured the safety of the school kids for now, Kamat, however, said he would speak to the authorities to explore the possibility of appointing a part-time security personnel to ensure security of the children and the area.
