He further said that Margao city should be connected to the Sewerage treatment plant by May 30 after the STP is commissioned as per the promises handed out by the PWD.
While declining to say that Margao has been neglected by the BJP-led government on grounds of political vendetta, Kamat, however, said that some of his promises could not be implemented for want of support of the new dispensation.
“I had laid the foundation stone for the ultra-modern bus terminus at the KTC bus stand five years ago. The BJP-led government did not pursue the project till date. If implemented, the bus terminus project would have been self sustaining for the KTC,” he said.
On the Non-conventional Energy Park mooted by his during his tenure as Chief Minister between 2007-12, Kamat said even the land was available for the ambitious project, but the new government preferred to return the grant received from the centre to execute the project.
“I wanted to have the non-conventional energy park in the city, but the government had other plans,” he added.
When his attention was drawn to the long-delayed Margao Ring Road project, which remains incomplete till date, Kamat said that the project has put in place wherever land was available.
“A small stretch of the ring road has been delayed at Comba because of the rehabilitation of the displaced people. Once the rehabilitation package is worked out, I think the major part of the city will be linked to the ring road project”, Kamat added.
He told the media that the High Court has taken suo moto cognizance of the delay in the implementation of the ring road project, exuding confidence that things should hopefully fall in place at the earliest.
On the restoration and conservation of the Old Camara building crumbling at the Old Market, Kamat recalled that when he and Fatorda MLA, now TCP Minister had raised the issue on the floor of the Assembly session in the last term, then Urban development Minister, Francis D’Souza had promised to work out a solution through the GSUDA. “Let us wait and see how GSUDA intends to take possession and restore the building,” he added.
