Though the Congress didn't pack much of a punch in the monsoon session of the Goa Assembly in August, it was Digambar Kamat who saved the party from being a total flop on the floor of the House, firing a flurry of questions on varied subjects and issues. Digambar heads the list of those who asked the most questions followed by Curtorim MLA Alexio Reginaldo Laurence, opposition leader Babu Kavlekar and Cancona MLA Isidore Fernandes.
From the ruling dispensation, Bicholim MLA Rajesh Patnekar, Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral and Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo asked the maximum number of questions, while Mormugao MLA Milind Naik was far behind with only a few querries to his credit.
Incidentally, it was TCP Minister Vijay Sardessai and IT Minister Rohan Khaunte, when in the opposition in the last session, who were in the forefront attacking the government along with Curtorim MLA Alexio Reginaldo Laurenco and former Bicholim MLA Naresh Sawal.
As Vijai and Khaunte are now part of the government and Sawal meeting his Waterloo in the elections, Laurenco was expected to go all guns blazing at the government. However, during the 15 days of monsoon assembly session, Digambar Kamat topped the list as the MLA who asked the maximum questions. He asked 250 questions while Laurenco trails closely behind by a margin of just 2 questions. Laurenco asked 248 questions, of which 40 were starred. While, Digambar has 42 starred questions to his credit. Starred questions are discussed in the assembly while answers to the not-starred questions are given in writing.
For last few years, Babu Kavlekar had been lagging behind in asking questions but now that he has been appointed the leader of the opposition, he has asked 220 questions, out of which 42 were starred.
Others from the Congress were Isidore Fernandes with 188 questions, Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte 110 questions, Nuvem MLA Wilfred D'Sa 53 questions, Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias 48 questions and St Andre MLA Francisco Silvera with 60 questions.
Newly elected St Cruz Congress MLA Tony Fernandes asked 12, while Cortalim MLA Alina Saldhana, Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, Velim MLA Philip Neri Rodrigues and Sanvordem MLA Deepak Pauskar remained mum for most part of the session.
Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar asked 40 questions, Subhash Shirodkar 49, Nilkhant Harlankar 44 and Jennifer Monseratte asked 42 questions.
When it comes to starred questions, Ponda MLA Ravi Naik asked 43 questions of which 36 were starred, while 50 per cent questions asked by Silveira were starred. He asked 60 questions. Nilesh Kabral (23%), Isidore Fernandes (39%), Dayanand Sopte (27%), Valpoi MLA (90%) and Alina Saldhana asked 75% of starred questions.
