Former Karnataka Pradesh Congress chief and newly appointed Congress Goa desk in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao on Sunday argued that his statement concerning the Mhadei water row had been misinterpreted.
“My statement has been misinterpreted. The case of the Mhadei River water allocation dispute is in the Supreme Court. It was my view that the issue should finally be settled by the court,” he stated.
The Congressman said that his opinion that the Mhadei water dispute could have been settled sooner had the Prime Minister intervened.
“There is no change in my statement on this,” Dinesh Gundu Rao tweeted.
Addressing Goan media on October 24 for the first time since taking over his responsibilities as the desk in-charge, Dinesh Gundu Rao had declared, “I am saying that it is a sub-judice matter. Each state will fight for its rights. Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have Cauvery water dispute. It is the duty of each state to fight for its own rights. In a democracy, either the Prime Minister becomes an adjudicator and settles the matter amicably, which Prime Minister Modi did not do or the judiciary rules in the matter.”
He had come under heavy flak from activists and other Opposition political parties for his seemingly pro-Karnataka stand and for his refusal to reiterate the stand of Goa Congress.
