PANAJI
Bowing to the public pressure the Corporation of the City of Panaji has decided to relax the Standard Operation Procedure regarding the height of Narkasur effigy and restrictions on sound.
"In the earlier SOP, the size of the Narkasur effigy was restricted to 8 feet and there was no permission for loud music. Now there will be no restriction on height of Narkasur effigy and loud music if the concerned parties take permission from the Collector", CCP Mayor Uday Madkaikar said.
He said that the decision has been taken as there were growing demands from enthusiastic youth to relax the curbs.
The Mayor however clarified that other conditions such as ban on Narkasur competitions will continue.
As a precautionary measure for the ongoing pandemic a week ago the Corporation of the City of Panaji had announced the SOP ahead of the Diwali festival.
The SOP should be followed on the eve of Diwali -- which marks the burning of Narkasur effigy to display the victory of good over evil.
The mayor has appealed to people to follow safety protocols such as social distancing, wearing of face covers, use of hand sanitizers/and wash all through the festivities.
