Exactly a week after the Hospicio dialysis unit run by Dr Venkatesh R was ravaged by fire, there’s no stop to the ding-dong battle between the government and the dialysis unit owner over the resumption of dialysis unit.

A day after the police and hospital security guards barred Dr Venkatesh from bringing a power generator to restore power supply to the unit, forcing the doctor to shift the patients to a private hospital, dialysis operations resumed at the Hospicio annex building on Friday when Dr Venkatesh once again connected his unit to the three-phase power connection supplied to the Dialysis Reverse Osmosis water treatment system atop the annex building.

After Dr Venkatesh personally connected his unit to the three-phase supply at around 2 pm Friday, around three patients availed of the facility, with the doctor stating that the remaining 12 patients will receive the dialysis late till Friday night.

What’s interesting to note is that the power supply to the unit was disconnected by unknown persons, which was reconnected by Dr Venkatesh on Friday. “My patients were disappointed on Thursday after the security guards stopped me from bringing the generator inside. Today at 7 am, all my patients gathered at the unit and seeing their plight since some of them were in a critical state, I got the power connected to the overhead system. When I went upstairs, I found to my shock that some miscreants had cut the wire supplying power to the unit. We have got the problem rectified and the dialysis operations have resumed after the restoration of power supply,” he told the media.

While praying to God that there’s no further disturbance in the dialysis facility in the interest of the 32 patients, Dr Venkatesh, however, asserted that he would move the High Court along with the patients on Monday for a permanent solution to the problem. “What we have done so far is just a temporary solution. We will knock the doors of the court for a permanent solution,” he added.
