The Archdiocese of Goa and Daman will organise the annual 5th Diocesan ‘Walking Pilgrimage’ on the very first Sunday of Lent on February 26, to initiate the spiritual preparation of the Catholic community.
This year, the theme for the occasion will be, “Living our mission through participation by being in union with the Holy Trinity.”
According to the Convenor of the Event, Fr Ligorinho D’Costa, the ‘Walking Pilgrimage’ will be held at three different levels, namely Family, Parish and Diocesan.
FAMILY LEVEL
At the family-level, the Church advises families to recite the rosary of Our Lady, St Joseph, Divine Mercy and other pious prayers, reflect on Bible passages related to Pilgrimage e.g. Journey of Abraham, Our Lady’s visit to Elizabeth and the Passion narrative from the Gospel of St John. Read the life of Saints. Meditatively pray and reflect on the 14 stations of the Cross, some acts of service, a visit to the sick, the old and the lonely, meditatively pray and reflect on the 14 stations of the Cross with the neighbours, if the situation permits, have a meal together with family members or family could share some service-oriented touching experiences among the members.
PARISH LEVEL
The Church advises the Catholic community to prepare themselves with a good confession.
As a ward, community, they are encouraged to walk from their houses to the parish with a spirit of penance and as they walk, they are encouraged to recite the rosary and reflect on the life and suffering of Christ.
