The displaced GMC kiosk owners were expecting a Ganesh Chaturthi gift with the allotment of shops to them, which would have completed their rehabilitation process.
However, the Chaturthi has come but still there is no sign of the allotment of shops, which has given sleepless nights to the affected kiosk owners.
Speaking to The Goan, kiosk owner Domnic Pereira, who is now the deputy sarpanch of Santa Cruz, informed that he is at loss of words to explain why the allotment of shops is not done yet.
“When we met the earlier deputy Collector Vivek Naik he had assured that the shops would be allotted before Chaturthi. However, he has been transferred and we are not aware when the allotment would take place,” Pereira informed.
“Deputy collector Naik has completed all the paper work and the only thing that remains is the allotment,” Pereira explained and stated that he would meet the present deputy collector, on Monday, to know the exact status and the reason for the delay.
Meanwhile, Pereira raised concern over some Deendayal kiosk owners resorting to violations by doing business beyond their kiosks by extending the same with construction of temporary sheds.
“I had brought to the notice of the deputy collector about the violation but no action has been taken,” Pereira stated but added that once they get the allotment of shops they will ensure that such violations are not allowed.
“We are also going to ensure that food trucks are not allowed to do business outside the GMC complex as it would affect our business,” he stated.
