Display of political banners & posters: Facing flak, MMC to streamline process for issue of permissions

MARGAO
Facing flak from certain quarters on issuance of permission to display political banners and posters in the city, Margao Municipal Chairperson Lyndon Pereira has said the civic body will streamline the process of issuing permissions for display of banner and posters on Monday.

He further said that the district administration has come out with a host of conditions, which need to be complied with by the applicant before the permission is issued by the civic body.

Saying the Margao civic body is yet to receive the directions from the Director, Urban Development issued by the South Goa District Collector, Ruchika Katyal, IAS on political posters and banners, the MMC chairperson said the civic body will process the applications as and when the directions are received and as per the conditions imposed by the district Collector.

Referring to the statement issued by Shadow Council of Margao, Savio Coutinho and Adv Seoula Vas on permission for banners and posters, Lyndon pointed out that since the MMC was yet to receive the Collector’s directions, he had personally called on the Additional district Collector, Surendra Naik to seek details on the rules regulating political posters and banners.

“The Additional Collector explained that the Collector has come out with a host of conditions which require the application to comply with before the civic body could issue the permission,” he said, adding that an unnecessary row was sought to be created on the issue of permissions by the civic body.
