A dispute among siblings took a violent turn when two brothers were arrested on charges of murdering their sibling at Acoi in Mapusa on Monday, Mapusa Police informed.
The accused, Vinod Kerkar (62) and Dyaneshwar Kerkar (49) were arrested and produced before the JMFC court which remanded them to seven days police custody.
The deceased, Vilas Kerkar (52), who was hit on the head, died on the spot.
The incident took place at around 9 pm in the varendah of their residential home on Sunday.
According to police, the three brothers, who are bachelors, were staying in the house along with their lone sister, who is a spinster.
On the fateful Sunday night, a verbal duel ensued
between the elder brother, Vinod, and the deceased, which soon snowballed into a physical fight.
Soon, the younger brother, Dyaneshwar, joined forces with his elder brother and both began to mercilessly hit the deceased, police informed.
“The sister who tried to mediate was also roughed up. After the attack, the body of the deceased remained in the house for some time as the accused warned the neighbours from entering the house,” a police official informed.
On being intimated, other family members rushed in and shifted the deceased to the North Goa District Hospital, Mapusa, where he was proclaimed brought dead.
The deceased was hit with a sturdy PVC pipe and a hard wooden log, police informed.
Police conducted the panchanama. After conducting post mortem, the body was handed over to the relatives of the deceased.
Mapusa Police have registered a case against the accused under the relevant sections of the IPC and further investigations are being carried out by Mapusa PI, Tushar Lotlikar.
