Condemning the U-turn made by Union Minister for Environment Prakash Javadekar on the Mhadei issue, Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao has warned that Goa may witness a revolution if the injustice done to the State on the issue is not addressed forthwith.

Churchill, however, gave a clean chit to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, saying that he does not think the Chief Minister’s efforts to protect Goa’s interests fell short of the expectations, pointing out that Sawant had made a strong case with the Centre on the issue.

Addressing the media with Colva Panch Pio Furtado, the Benaulim MLA said people of Goa will not watch silently if the Centre does not stop forthwith the injustices meted out to the State on the Mhadei issue. “There will be a revolution in the State on Mhadei. Mhadei is not just the lifeline of Goa, but is a Mother for Goans, irrespective of caste and creed. I will join the people in this revolution if the centre does not rectify the wrongs done against Goa”, he warned, but hastened to add that he has full faith in the Judiciary, exuding confidence that the Apex Court would do justice for Goa.

Churchill recalled that the Union Minister Javadekar had assured the all-party delegation from Goa headed by the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant that the letter issue to Karnataka would be withdrawn within 15 days. “Javadekar had even gone to the extent of saying that he was unware of the letter issued by his department’s subordinate officers, but had promised to withdraw the letter within 15 days”, Churchill s

aid.

Saying that Javadekar’s latest letter addressed to the Karnataka Home Minister Bomai has comes a shock not just for him, but for the people of Goa on Christmas day, the NCP Benaulim MLA hoped better sense would prevail upon the Union Minister Javadekar and the Centre and the people of Goa receive good news in the New Year. “I along with the NCP is not ready to accept Javadekar’s arrogance on the isuse. The Union Minister seemed to have thrown all rules to the winds”, he

 added.

“Mhadei is the lifeline of Goa. Nothing should be allowed to impact the interest of the state on the issue”, he said, adding that Goa would suffer irreparable loss if the Centre does not do justice for the

state.
