The Congress in Goa on Thursday demanded intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi into the ongoing Mhadei water  controversy.

“State government should call for one-day legislative   assembly session to discuss the crucial issue of Mhadei river. An  all-party delegation should then meet Modi and  seek  his intervention in the matter,” Leader of Opposition  Digambar Kamat said.

Kamat demanded that one day Goa Legislative Assembly session should  be immediately summoned and unanimous resolution taken demanding that  Mhadei water should not be diverted.

He said that though the case is pending before SC,  Karnataka is writing to the Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change and the central government is responding to it.

The Leader of Opposition said any decision on Mhadei  should be taken only after the petitions filed before SC are disposed

off.

“Whatever has to be done, should be done after the Supreme Court gives its verdict,” he said.
