Marriages may be made in heaven but they are dissolving here in Goa with growing frequency. So much so, that the divorce rates in the first six months have now exceeded the average annual divorce rate in the last three years.

In the last three years, there have been a total of 945 divorces recorded, which works out to 26.25 divorces recorded per month, but in the last six months alone, there have been 254 divorces, an average of 42.33 divorces recorded per month.

Incidentally, this six-month figure has exceeded the number of divorces for the entire 2021. Experts have attributed the high divorce rate in Goa to a number of factors, some of which include changing lifestyles, poor communication and family quarrels.
