Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday told the Goa Legislative Assembly that 130 government pre-primary schools which have started implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) will be provided additional teachers within 10 days.
Sawant also said that additional teachers to colleges will also be provided depending on the ratio of students.
He said 240 institutions offering pre-primary education under the NEP have registered with the State Education Department so far and urged other institutes offering pre-primary education to also register with the department at the earliest.
“The pre-primary schools in the State have started implementing NEP from July 3. We have not provided additional teachers to these schools yet. But within 10 days we will provide teachers to 130 government schools,” Sawant said.
The CM was responding to a query raised by Calangute MLA Michael Lobo during the Question Hour.
Sawant informed that the cluster concept was introduced from the college level.
“It’s at the second level and we are working on it. Our higher education is also working on how we can provide a dual degree to a student,” he said.
The CM informed the House that Goa was one step ahead as compared to other States while implementing the NEP 2020.
“We have started implementing the NEP at Foundation Level 1. Around 150 pre-primary teachers were selected as trainers and provided training on the policy. These trainers were instrumental in training all the teachers of anganwadi,” he said.
“At higher education level, master trainers were selected who managed to give training practically and online to all teachers,” he added.
He said the Dishtavo YouTube educational channel covered the first, second and third year BA, Bcom and BSc syllabus.
“All other States are using this now. Everyone is referring to Dishtava channel. We have been appreciated at the higher educational level,” Sawant said.
He said taluka level meetings were held at every level with the management and PTA to explain the NEP.
Earlier, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo admitted that the NEP was a big revolution in the education sector but sought to know whether the government had put proper infrastructure in place by taking the management, teachers and the parent teacher association (PTA) into confidence.
“Govt intends to form clusters in colleges. It is a good plan where students get a choice to learn his favourite subject. But has any provision been made for teachers to travel from one college to another college?” Lobo asked.
Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao said there was no clarity over the concept of cluster.
