Even as the Diwali Bazar was opened along the promenade of the Merces lake at Moloca, on Wednesday, State BJP president Sadanand Tanavade has mooted the idea of using the area into a permanent spot for a weekly market.
Speaking after inaugurating the bazaar along with Agriculture and Handicrafts minister Ravi Naik and St Cruz MLA Rudolf Fernandes, Tanavade said that the area is strategically located at the entrance of the village, which should be used to setup a weekly market where the local women could come and sell their products and produce.
“If the Diwali Bazar becomes a success, then the area has the potential of being converted into a weekly market on the lines of Mapusa’s Friday market,” Tanavade said and congratulated panch Pramod Kamat for conceptualizing the idea.
On his part, minister Naik said that such initiatives would help the women to earn money through their hard work while laying thrust on the need to empower women to empower society.
“If a woman is empowered, the society gets empowered,” Naik added.
Speaking on the initiative, panch Kamat said that ever since he became the block president of St Cruz BJP he had promised that he would do something for the empowerment of women.
