MARGAO
In an interesting political development, Aam Aadmi Party Curtorim candidate for the 2022 Assembly polls, Dominic Gaunkar has decided to quit the party and join the ruling BJP.
Gaunkar told the media on Tuesday that he would soon put in his resignation to the AAP leadership and then embrace the BJP.
The three-time South Goa Zilla Panchayat member, representing the Raia constituency, had joined AAP in the run-up to the 2022 Assembly polls.
Saying that certain promises made by the AAP leadership were not fulfilled by the party, Gaunkar pointed out that he has decided to join the BJP with the sole objective of the development of his constituency as the party is presently ruling the State.
Incidentally, Gaunkar had contested the 2012 Assembly election from Curtorim as an Independent-backed by the BJP.
Saying that he is returning to the BJP after more than five years, Gaunkar pointed out that he had once headed the post of Margao BJP Mandal president after the 2012 Assembly polls.
He has had discussions with State party leadership led by BJP president Sadanand Tanavade on his entry, pointing out that he is joining the BJP without any conditions.
“I have not put any conditions for my entry into the BJP. I only want to get the development of my Zilla panchayat constituency and the works of my supporters,” he added.
