The DoP has directed the Nerul Panchayat to issue a construction license within 10 days to the Goa Salesian Society\'s Don Bosco college to construct an academic centre, sports facilities and compound wall in the village, following a technical clearance by the Dy Town Planner, Town and Country planning department.
However, the Nerul Panchayat replies to the DoP stating that the Salesian society has not obtained a clearance from Health and Public Works departments for the project, making it unable to issue the construction licence.
It may be recalled that on August 19, 2015, there was unrest in Nerul village after the Nerul Comunidade allotted 93,200 sq mtrs of land to the Goa Salesian Society for the proposed project. The villagers strongly protested against this project and the matter is now pending in court.
When contacted, Nerul Sarpanch Piedade Almeida said there is strong public objection to the project. "I had informed residents about the DoP\'s letter to the panchayat, during the Gram Sabha on July 16. The residents insisted that since the matter is sub-judice, the panchayat should not issue any construction license to the Salesian Society\'s Don Bosco college," said Almeida.
"The villagers mentioned that this project will not benefit the villagers in any way. On the contrary, it would impose a burden on the existing infrastructure of Nerul village."
