Residents of Dovondem-Fatorda expressed their total unhappiness over the way the Margao Municipal Council is handling the GI sheet fencing around the property proposed for a mega housing project.
When the delegation of residents called on MMC Chief Officer Madhu Narvekar to shed light on the action taken by the civic body as per the assurance given by the Municipal Administrator, the CO pointed out that the height of the fencing will be reduced while the residents have been demanding total dismantling of the GI sheets.
The residents questioned the logic behind the MMC decision, saying the civic body should have directed the builder to dismantle the fencing since no licence has been issued by the MMC for the project till date. “We are totally unhappy with the way the MMC is handling the project. Our fight to oppose the housing project will continue,” stated Adv. Seoula Vas.
Vas also pooh-poohed the letter written by Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai to TCP Minister Vishwajit Rane to declare the two housing project sites as NDZ/NDA. “The letter written by the MLA appears to be a revenge letter. When the people are demanding to scrap the mega housing projects, the MLA cannot demand to declare the entire Dovondem ward as NDZ,” she said.
One of the residents demanded to know why the Fatorda MLA has not come out to stop the mega housing projects when he had time to drive a bulldozer at Velsao to oppose the double-track work.
Meanwhile, Sardesai has reiterated that he stands with the people of Dovondem in opposing the mega housing projects. “Everyone knows that the builder who has proposed the project at Dovondem is a relative of a BJP Minister. Let BJP State President Damu Naik take the initiative to get the projects scrapped,” he said.
