Post the fire incident at Hospicio annex building, the tug of war between the doctor running the dialysis unit and the authorities over the running of the facility continued with the latter firm on closing the unit and the former too equally remaining assertive on keeping it running come what may.
Dr Venkatesh R, who is running the unit, resumed dialysis operations at the centre on Monday and Tuesday with the help of a power generator. He switched over to electric supply on Wednesday with the help of a three-phase connection supplied to the Dialysis Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment System located atop the annex building.
By evening, however, the authorities walked into Hospicio annex building to disconnect the power supply to the unit, leaving Dr Venkatesh demoralized, but not out. While around 11 patients availed the dialysis facility at the unit on Wednesday before the power supply from the Dialysis Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment System to the unit was disconnected in the evening, questions are being raised whether the unit will run on Thursday.
When this question was posed to Dr Venkatesh, he only said “wait and watch”, indicating that he would not sit quiet over the decision of the authorities to disconnect power supply to his unit. “First, they put pressure on the power generator contractor to withdraw the gen set from the Hospicio premises after the police sought a whole lot of details from him under the pretext of conducting a probe in the fire mishap,” he said, while claiming that no private contractor in
the city is willing to give their DG set to him to run the dialysis unit.
Earlier on Wednesday morning, Dr Venkatesh sprang a big surprise when he managed to run the show with electric supply from the three-phase connection to the Dialysis Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment System when the authorities thought that the unit will remain shut from Wednesday for want of power supply.
A lady PRO had made her visit to the dialysis unit around noon after news spread that the dialysis centre has started operations.
Dr Venkatesh R pointed out that he has done nothing wrong in connecting his unit with the overhead Dialysis Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment System which has a three-phase connection.
“What wrong have I done in connecting my unit to the three-phase facility of the Dialysis Reserve Osmosis Water Treatment System. I had to connect the unit since the Hospicio has not restored power supply to the building and the gen set owner has withdrawn his generator after being called by the police for an inquiry,” Dr Venkatesh said.
Saying that neither the Hospicio nor the health authorities have issued him any notice with a direction to stop the facility, he dared the authorities to issue him a written notice to stop the facility, saying the government will only commit contempt of court.
