Three young men from Jharkhand had come to Goa a year ago to earn a living for their families. They were working as cooks at the ‘Birch by Romeo Lane’ nightclub in north Goa. Their lives ended in tragedy in the early hours of Sunday when a massive fire broke out at the club, killing them along with 22 others, most of whom were staff. The victims from Jharkhand were identified as Vinod Mahato (19), Pradeep Mahato (24) and Mohit (24). Their cousin, Rajiv Sahu, who works in Ponda, is now making arrangements to take their bodies back to Ranchi by flight. Relatives and friends of several victims from Assam, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand gathered outside the Goa Medical College and Hospital mortuary to identify the bodies and collect

information. Another victim, Satish Rana (27), from Uttarakhand, was also working as a chef at the club. His family rushed to Goa after hearing about the fire. A relative said he had identified Rana’s body and would take it back for the final rites.
