Lifeguards to assist police in keeping beaches safe and secure

Speaking at a meeting, Margao SDPO DySP Dinraj Govekar said lifeguards could serve as the ears and eyes of the Goa Police, working together to help save lives and increase safety.
“Drishti lifeguards can act as the eyes and ears of the Goa Police. As a preventive measure, lifeguards can assist the police by collecting information on suspicious interactions of locals with tourists and clandestine activity and passing on the information including photographs to the police,” he said.
Acknowledging the critical role played by lifeguards every single day of saving precious lives and preventing instances of drownings, DySP Govenkar requested the continued assistance of lifeguards to stay vigilant and aid the police to crack down on illegal activity taking place on the coast by providing necessary inputs.
Also discussed were procedures to report and handle casualties, assistance from the police to handle aggressive tourists and deployment of additional policemen and lifeguards at some of the popular beaches that witness a surge of crowds on weekends and holidays.
With the summer holidays approaching and the expected tourist number set to rise, PN Pandey, GM, Operations at Drishti assured full cooperation with the Goa Police in an effort to offer an enjoyable experience to beach visitors and to strengthen security measures.
The meeting at the Lifeguard centre in Benaulim comes after another meeting that was held last month with Goa Police (North). Representatives from the Goa Police (South), DySP Govekar, SDPO Margao; DySP Lawrence D’Souza SDPO Vasco; DySP Sammy Tavares, SDPO Quepem along with PIs interacted with Pandey, Medical Head Drishti Lifesaving Dr Mihir Choudhary, GM, Training Head Lalit Negi and 20 senior lifeguard supervisors and captains from Drishti.
