Drugs in Zuarinagar: Third alleged drug peddler arrested in a fortnight

PANAJI
In a follow-up action into the arrest of a Swiggy delivery agent and his supplier in Zuari Nagar last month, the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) on Thursday nabbed a 43-year-old Uttar Pradesh native, in possession of 905 grams of ganja.

The accused, identified as Achilal Fakir Bin, a resident of Zuari Nagar and originally from Gorakhpur, UP, was arrested during a raid at Zari, Zuari Nagar, in the early hours of Thursday. This is the third arrest of alleged drug peddler from the same area within a fortnight.

On August 24, the ANC had arrested a Swiggy delivery agent with ganja, followed by the arrest of a Belgaum native on August 26 who allegedly supplied the drug to him. Interrogation of the duo revealed that Achilal was the source of supply.

According to the ANC, Achilal procured ganja in bulk from Maharashtra and engaged migrant youth to distribute it locally. “He was also the one who supplied the drug to the Belgaum native, who in turn peddled it to the delivery agent,” the ANC said adding that the case helped them establish the forward and backward linkages of an interstate ganja racket.

Achilal was remanded to seven days police custody by the local Court.

The raid was conducted by PSI Sunil Falkar and staff under PI Sajith Pillai, supervised by DySP Nerlon Albuquerque, and monitored by SP Sunita Sawant.
