Acting on a representation submitted by Somnath Sawant, President of the Assagao-Badem Citizen’s Action Committee (ABCAC), Deputy Collector Uday Prabhu Dessai has directed the Anjuna Police to investigate allegations against a bar and restaurant suspected of planning to operate as a full-fledged nightclub in Assagao.

In an official memorandum, the deputy collector instructed the Anjuna Police Inspector to conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter.

If the proprietor is found to be playing music illegally, the police are to take action according to the law.

Sawant’s representation to the deputy collector highlighted that the proprietor had initially obtained a license to run a pub/bar and restaurant, but allegedly harboured intentions to convert the establishment into a nightclub.

The villagers of Assagao, under the banner of ABCAC have strongly opposed the nightclub’s establishment in their residential area.

Several local devasthan committees have also voiced their opposition to the nightclub. Reflecting public sentiment, the Assagao panchayat recently decided to deny the premises a No Objection Certificate (NOC) and a trade license.

This investigation marks a significant step in addressing community concerns and ensuring that businesses operate within the legal framework and in harmony with the residential character of Assagao.
