A day after authorities seized the statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar as attempts were being made to install it in Mangor-Vasco, Mormugao Dy Collector Sachin Desai issued an advisory to direct all candidates to to strictly abide by the Model Code of Conduct during the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) elections. The advisory issued by Desai was sent to all political parties and all candidates contesting the MMC polls, with a copy to the police for enforcement.
“In view of the upcoming elections and ongoing MCC, it is hereby reiterated that all contesting candidates and political functionaries must abide by the provisions of the Model Code of Conduct in its letter and spirit.”
“All government programmes should be apolitical and devoid of any political involvement/participation, including publishing of name/photograph of any political functionary. It must be ensured by everyone that no political functionary should be present in any government programme such as Ambedkar Jayanti, Tika Utsav etc in the areas where Model Code of Conduct is in force,” stated the advisory.
