Following directives from the Election Commission of India (ECI), the Central Excise Commission on Monday suspended liquor licenses of 77 establishments including that of an Anjuna shack Shiva Valley for violating moral code of conduct.
A total of 77 liquor licenses were suspended as they were found to violating the code and serving alcohol well past the stipulated cut off time of 11 pm. In addition, they had also seized 1,530 litres of alcohol since the implementing of the moral code of conduct (MCC).
In total, 129 cases of violation of MCC were registered by the excise department. 77 licenses belonged to establishments like shacks, restaurants and bars and 52 were issued to wholesale dealers that were engaged in selling alcohol.
ECI that were in the state on Saturday and Sunday, directed authorities including the excise, narcotics and income tax departments to keep a strict watch on anyone violating the code. They also said tabs were being kept on casinos and movement of cash in banks.
