Stating that for the last three years the BJP-led government and the party has not taken any wrong step, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday exhorted the people of Goa to elect a government instead of electing MLAs for stability and development of the State.

Sawant also stressed that it was only because of the double engine government “ at the Centre and the State “ Goa could witness such a massive development in infrastructure despite financial constraints.

“Despite taking over as the CM of the State in difficult circumstances, we managed to keep pace with development. We took over to serve the people and not to rule the State. For stability in the State, people should elect a government and not just MLAs,” Sawant said.

The chief minister was addressing the media soon after the Election Commission of India announced the election schedule to five States including Goa.

State BJP President, Sadanand Tanavde and General Secretary, Narendra Sawaikar were also present.

Continuing, Sawant said real development in the State started only from 2014 and it could be possible only because of the double engine government.

“Whatever growth we have witnessed in this period, we have not seen for the last 50 years. We managed to ramp up infrastructure in tourism, roads, agriculture and health in a big way. This could be possible only because we were ably supported by the Central government. We managed to utilize 96 percent of the funds from the Government of India,” he said.

He said despite the disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and later the destruction caused by cyclone Tauktae and the floods, the government managed to tide over difficulties and reach out to those in need.

He said the completion of several stretches of the national highway in the State which were recently inaugurated by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highway, Nitin Gadkiri bore testimony to the kind of development undertaken in the State.
