Bureaucrat-turned-politician and Congress leader Elvis Gomes has said there are many party leaders in Cuncolim including him, who deserve to be considered for the ticket before the party takes a final decision.
Gomes sounded a note of caution, saying that people of Cuncolim are the ultimate judges and any attempt to play with their sentiments may result in consequences that could hurt the party.
His statement assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of the fact that the Cuncolim Congress block recommended the lone name of Yuri Alemao for the ticket.
When questioned about reports of Cuncolim Congress block having endorsed the candidature of lone candidate Yuri for the ticket, Elvis said that it was prima facie wrong to declare the block committee filled with supporters of a particular person and immediately hold a meeting to endorse his name to the exclusion of others.
Terming it a sham, Elvis said “I will raise it with senior functionaries. It is not the way a party like the Congress at the block level should function. Proper procedures should not only be done but should also be seen to be done. There are many Congress leaders in Cuncolim including me who deserve to be considered before the party takes a final decision."
Meanwhile, Citizens for democracy a citizens’ group has claimed that large scale frauds in a change of names in form 1 & 14 of the revenue records continue unabated through fraudulent processes carried out in the revenue department of the state government.
Maintaining the charge made earlier too, Citizens for Democracy leader Elvis Gomes addressing media along with Sidharth Karapurkar and Ramiro Mascarenhas said that many cases were surfacing that revealed an organised mafia in connivance with state government machinery was involved in defrauding people and stealing their land resource.
He added that even as matters are being heard in courts, cases for change of zones were being placed before the TCP board under section 16B of the TCP act that could result in irreversible changes in the original character of lands.
“Matter is attaining serious proportions. We had submitted a memorandum to the CM highlighting the gravity of the issue. Nothing has happened since. It is time people check land records on a daily basis like one would check BP or sugar levels. This government has failed to protect our land too,” said Gomes.
