The state unit of the AAP has been pitching for party leader Elvis Gomes to be nominated to the Rajya Sabha, even as they concede that the ultimate decision will lie with the party's Delhi unit.
Suggestions that the Elvis Gomes name be among the list of probable candidates was first suggested by AAP leader Maclean Coutinho, who in response to a news article that the AAP would consider grassroots level workers for the Rajya Sabha seats after high profile invitees declined the offer.
"Would suggest Elvis Gomes who has huge bureaucratic experience and a strong grassroots connect with Goa. Would make a great impact on Maharashtra and Karnataka to percolate the AAP idea of mohalla clinics and others," Coutinho said in a tweet that received several responses in support of her suggestion especially since "his sacrifice" (of giving up a secure government job) shouldn't go unnoticed while also advertising his experienced and honest credentials.
Sources in the state AAP unit have told The Goan that the party's state unit will be sending a formal proposal over the next few days and hope that the central leadership would consider it favourable.
Others have however remained skeptical about his chances given that names of two persons - Ashutosh and Sanjay Singh - said to be frontrunners, besides that of Arvind Kejriwal himself have been doing the rounds for the three seats afforded in the Rajya Sabha to the party on account of its showing in Delhi.
