Bureaucrat-turned-politician Elvis Gomes on Monday said he has filed a letter complaint before the Supreme Court claiming that the State administration has committed contempt of the top court concerning hate speeches.
He hoped the Apex Court will take cognisance of his letter and initiate action against the administration for the delay by police to register an FIR for a hate speech.
“The Goa police has clearly committed contempt of the Supreme Court directives in the Subhash Velingkar case. The Supreme Court has insisted that the police need not even wait for a complaint to register an FIR in a hate speech. Velingkar’s statement on St Francis Xavier constitutes a hate speech. But, the police did not take cognisance of Velingkar’s statement, but waited for the people to hit the roads to register the FIR,” Gomes said.
Underlining the need for the people of Goa to remain united to protect the land and Goemkarpon, Gomes said reports indicate that around 3.5 lakh square metres of land was sought to be converted at Sancoale during the three days of agitation.
“People of Goa should remain united. We should not allow ourselves to be divided on religious and communal lines. Otherwise, we will not be able to take the battle to protect our land, heritage and environment forward,” he cautioned.
