OLD GOA

Emilia Caiado was elected as the new sarpanch of Goa Velha defeating Rajeshri Chari by 5-0 votes at an election in the panchayat on Friday.
The election was necessitated after the ouster of former sarpanch Francis D'Souza recently.
At the election, Deputy Sarpanch Monica Miranda and panchas Andre Pereira, Iyno de Souza, Agnelo Fernandes and the newly elected sarpanch cast their votes in favour of Caiado while Chari who remained absent during voting got no votes.
Former sarpanch Francis D'Souza abstained from voting.
After her election to the top post, Caiado said her top priority would be to ensure that the Panchayat Ghar and the sports ground get completed at the earliest.

‘Three months not enough for development activity’
OLD GOA: Former Goa Velha sarpanch Francis D'Souza clarified that he was ousted as sarpanch not because of development as he said that he was sarpanch for hardly three months.
"Three months were barely enough to undertake any development," D'Souza informed while adding that Dy Sarpanch Monica Miranda never proposed development works in her ward.
Incidentally, it was the switching of sides by Miranda that led to the downfall of D'Souza, who was accused of slow pace of development in the village.
"Otherwise, let Miranda prove that she had moved any development proposals in her ward," the former sarpanch challenged.
However, Miranda reiterated that development in her ward suffered and informed that with a new sarpanch taking over development in the village would gain speed.
