Workers of Goa Dairy protested outside the gate at Curti on Thursday, demanding implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission, immediate payment of revised dearness allowance and arrears since 2016.
The workers’ leader Puti Gaonkar told media persons that Goa Dairy is bound to implement the Seventh Pay Commission as the fourth, fifth and even sixth pay commissions were implemented.
“Goa Dairy cannot do injustice to these 300-odd workers as it had promised to give all benefits on par with government employees. In 1984, this Goa Dairy was a department and later converted into a milk union. At the time, the then government had given a commitment to provide all benefits to these workers, on par with government employees,” Gaonkar said.
“If Goa Dairy fails to fulfil our demands by next Monday, we will go on a token strike on January 28 and followed by 3 more days of agitation,” warned Gaonkar.
The workers have decided to protest outside the gate briefly on Friday and Monday.
Gaonkar also blamed then cooperative minister Mahadev Naik for not following the recruitment procedures.
Speaking to media persons, Goa Dairy MD Raghunath Dhuri said the management will negotiate with the workers.
“We are considering their demands and assessments are being made to implement the Seventh Pay Commission. Everything is positively moving ahead,” Dhuri said.
Sources informed that settlement of workers demands may require crores of rupees, since arrears of the 300-odd workers are pending since 2016.
