With Cavelossim village considered the hub of starred resorts, the first meeting of the Cavelossim village panchayat has resolved to compile a data of unemployed youth to accommodate them in the hotels dotting the village and to seek help and assistance from the Tourism department to spruce up the tourism infrastructure.
Chaired by Sarpanch Dixon Vaz, the Cavelossim panchayat deliberated on the unemployed educated youth in the village and how to help them with a job in the starred resorts and hotels dotting the village. After the meeting, Dixon told the media that the ward panch members have been told to compile a data of the unemployed youth in their respective wards and assist them to find jobs in the hotels as well as in government departments.
“The panchayat can even get the hotels to develop the skills of the unemployed youth desiring to join the hospitality industry. We have come across our youngsters employed in hotels outside Cavelossim. The panchayat would seek the help and assistance of the hotels in the village to provide employment to the local youth,” he added.
The sarpanch further informed that the panchayat body would call on Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte to allot grants from the Tourism department to spruce up the infrastructure such as illumination, parking, changing rooms, toilets, etc, besides widening of the roads leading to the beaches. “Parking is an issue facing visitors to the Cavelossim-Mobor beach belt in the village. If the Tourism department is taking up these infrastructure issues, the panchayat will lend its support to the department,” he said.
Panchayat members have also suggested to construct a Tinto, children play area, walking track with the Liberation funds received from the government. The members demanded better medical facilities in the village specially for the poor and senior citizens.
A host of issues were discussed and deliberated at the first meeting of the panchayat body post-elections. The panchayat has adopted a resolution to sanction funds to install CCTV surveillance cameras on the Cavelossim-Assolna bridge to keep anti-social activities at bay. “We have come across anti-social activities on the Cavelossim-Assolna bridge. Cars and bikes are parked causing risk for travellers. Apart from installing CCTV cameras, signages will be put up on the bridge to ban parking of vehicles,” Dixon said, adding that the panchayat will ask the Electricity department to keep the street light illumination switch away at a position where normal citizens cannot lay their hands on.
