Displaced GMC kiosk owners meet Revenue Secy over shop allotments

With no sign of the allotment of shops, a delegation of the displaced GMC kiosk owners met the Secretary (Revenue) at the Secretariat  on Tuesday.

The delegation consisted of kiosk owners Domnic Pereira, Shakuntala Chodankar and others.

At the meeting, Pereira highlighted that all the process for allocation of shops had been completed by the previous deputy collector.

“However, he was transferred and the allocation process has since been stuck,” Pereira stated.

The Secretary (Revenue) Sandip Jacques assured that he would take up the issue with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and ensure that the shops are allotted at the earliest.

With the shops remaining unallocated for quite sometime since completion, garbage is seen accumulating in their surroundings.

“The area also being used by some for consumption of alcohol as beer bottles are also seen,” Pereira informed.

“Until and unless we get the shops we have no control over the situation. Once we are handed over the shops, then we will take care of all issues currently plaguing the area,” Pereira stated.

On the accumulation of garbage, Pereira, who is also the deputy sarpanch of Santa Cruz, said that once the shops are allotted it would be clear which panchayat has say over the same.

“Right now, there is no clarity as to which panchayat will be responsible for clearing the waste generated by the shops,” he informed.
