Clicking selfies on a large rock in the sea proved tragic for a young doctor associated with the EMRI ambulance services, when she drowned at the Patnem beach in Canacona late Tuesday evening.
According to reports, Dr Vutukuri Ramakrishna, who was in her mid-twenties, and a group of about 10 persons residing in Canacona had gone to Patnem beach during sunset and were clicking photos.
Some members of group were standing on a large rock clicking selfies, when they were struck by a wave and fell into the sea.
One youth rescued a person from the sea, while Dr Ramakrishna was later pulled out from the sea with the help of locals, who had rushed to their aid.
Dr Ramakrishna was shifted in a 108 ambulance to a hospital, where she was declared dead by doctors. Two others sustained minor injuries in the mishap.
The body was later sent for an autopsy and Canacona ASI Shridhar Kamat is investigating the case under the supervision of PI Sudesh Narvekar.
