Encroachments on pavements and roads by shopkeepers continue to hamper the pace of ‘Smart City’ work, according to Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd (IPSCDL) Managing Director, Sanjit Rodrigues but he committed to completing the road work and sewerage manhole construction in the capital city.
“The encroachments along the roadside pavements in Panaji have posed a significant challenge and have adversely affected the pace of our work. Our objective is to ensure that the pavements are level and accessible to all,” he said, while addressing a press conference on Monday.
“These obstacles have caused some delays in the revised project timeline, but through asystematic and methodical approach, the team has successfully brought the works under control and closer to the timelines,” Rodrigues said.
In October last year, the progress of manhole construction in Central Panaji roads stood at 31%, which rapidly increased to 66% by mid-January and to 76% as of now, he said.
Similarly, on Fontainhas road, the manhole construction progress has reached 96% as of today with two teams assigned to this location where work is suspended for the Mala zatra.
In St Inez, the Road construction progress was at 15% is now at 60%, he added.
