'Enough is Enough' statewide torchlight programme on Aug 14

PANAJI

The ‘Enough is Enough’ campaign will hold simultaneous torchlight programmes across all talukas on the eve of Independence Day, seeking public support for its 10-point charter of demands.

Spokesperson Swapnesh Sherlekar said the programme is intended to take the campaign’s demands beyond its existing network and directly engage with people.

“Our 10-point charter of demands needs to reach the common people. This is an exercise from our side to connect with people on the ground, listen to them, explain the demands we have placed before the government and seek their support,” he told reporters.

The charter includes the campaign’s demand for repeal of Section 39A of the Town and Country Planning Act. Another spokesperson, Devidas Amonkar, also reiterated the group’s opposition to a proposed 2,000-capacity casino, saying a court stay was currently in force in connection with the project.

The charter, he said, submitted to Governor Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant earlier did not see any response from the latter.
