Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai visited Children's Home 'Asro' run by Caritas Goa at Thivim on Saturday.
The Governor interacting with the inmates of Asro said, "The duty of every government is to fulfill the basic requirements of every citizen. Special children are a segment of this society and we have to fulfill their needs. Their wellbeing is the duty of society. We have to do everything possible to bring them into the main stream of the society."
The Governor said, “I decided from the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to go amidst people, interact with them and see for myself how best I can serve the society.”
Raj Bhavan has planned a programme to visit all such institutes which cater to the needs of neglected and destitutes in the society. As a human being, we have to serve the cause of humanity, he added.
Fr Maverick Fernandes welcomed and informed about various activities conducted for alround development and welfare of the children.
Sarpanch Diksha Naik, Collector North, Ajit Roy, IAS; Director Dept. Women & Child Development Deepali Naik, Secretary to Governor Mihir Vardhan IAS, Mamlatdar Bardez Taluka Rahul Desai; ADC to Governor, Vishram Borkar and others were present on the ocassion.
Sofia Valadares compered the function while Fr Savio Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks.
Earlier, the Governor interacted with senior citizens from shelter homes from across the State at Raj Bhavan, Dona Paula on Friday.
The senior citizens were desirous to see Raj Bhavan and the Governor is of the opinion that they should be allowed to visit Raj Bhavan. Taking this into account, Raj Bhavan has taken this initiative to invite senior citizen at Raj Bhavan today, he added.
The Governor while interacting with media informed that he had invited senior citizens from most of the shelter homes from Goa during his recent visits.
Accordingly, around 60 persons along with their caretakers participated in the get together. The intention behind inviting them is to fulfill their dream of visiting Raj Bhavan, Pillai said.
The Governor is of the opinion that senior citizens should be allowed to visit Raj Bhavan as they must be desiring to see for themselves.
Raj Bhavan took this initiative to invite senior citizen at Raj Bhavan today with this sole aim, he added.
Members from El- Shaddai Charity Institute, Missionaries of Charity, Quepem and Fatorpa and from other Shelter Homes responded positively with the invitation of the Governor. The Raj Bhavan initiated this step from the birth day of Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi.
Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar, Secretary to Governor Mihir Vardhan IAS and others were present on the occasion.
