Excise officials from Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra meet in Belagavi

BELAGAVI

In the wake of the forthcoming ssembly elections in Karnataka and a rise in incidents of illicit liquor transportation between Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra, a meeting of the excise officers of Karnataka Maharashtra and Goa was conducted in Belagavi.

The meeting was presided by Additional Commissioner of Excise Belgavi Y Manjunath, Joint Commissioner of Excise, Belagavi division, Superintendent of Excise Kolhapur and the Superintendent of Excise Sangli, along with Goa excise officials.

The officials discussed measures to prevent movement of illegal liquor across the state borders, highways and interior roads.

It was also decided to establish check post in border areas and to conduct joint raids along with border district excise officials and assisting each other in identification of habitual offences along border areas.

It was also decided to prevent the misuse of liquor transportation permit given by Goa wine shops to customers from Karnataka and Maharashtra.

While Excise SP Ravi Awale (Kolhapur), SP Deshmukh (Sangli), Belagavi DCs (Excise) Arunkumar and Jayaramegouda, Additional Excise Commissioner Y Manjunath, Belgaum Excise SPs Jagadish K and Vijay Hiremath and NC Patil were present for the meeting, Inspector Hanumanth Desai represented the Goa excise department.
