Ex-GSL officer booked over disproportionate assets

Substantial immovable assets & bank savings found, according to FIR

A former officer from Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) is currently under investigation by the Anti Corruption Branch of the Central Investigation Bureau (CBI) in Goa for allegedly accumulating wealth that exceeds his known sources of income, with a reported surplus of 66 percent.  

According to the First Information Report registered by the CBI after a thorough scrutiny, it has been revealed that the accused held a substantial list of immovable assets and bank savings. 

The retired Chief General Manager, Manoranjan Khuntia, is alleged to have acquired a plot in Dabolim for Rs 24 lakh and constructed a house valued at Rs 50 lakh .

Khuntia is further reported to have built an additional house in Bhubaneshwar during the fiscal year 2022-23, at a cost of Rs 1.40 crore on a plot he purchased back in 2008.

“Considering the income of Rs 2,91, 27,298 and the expenditure of Rs 2, 69, 08, 595 during the check period (Jan 2018-April 2023), the accused has got likely savings of Rs 22,18,703 only, whereas Manoranjan Khuntia is found to have amassed assets worth Rs 2, 14, 70,528 in the name of self and family members...thereby he is in possession of DA to the tune of Rs 1, 92,51,825 which is 66 percent of his total source of income which he could not satisfactorily account for,” it said indicating the former officer, illegally enriched himself, an offense under various sections of the PCA, 1988.
