A bulk of the exit polls which have emerged after the ban on publication exit polls by EC came to an end, have indicated a hung assembly in Goa with the Bharatiya Janata Party emerging as a single largest party.
Crucially, none of the exit pollsters, all of whom are based out of Delhi have given the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party a chance placing them under the category of ‘others’ even though common knowledge suggested Dhavalikar could emerge kingmaker if not the king.
Consensus among the pollsters is that no single party is likely to win a majority.
Axis-My India has given the BJP 18-22 seats, the Congress 9-13, Others 4-9 while the AAP has been handed 0-2.
HuffPost-C-Voter poll has predicted a hung assembly with the Congress as the single largest party with 16 seats, the BJP in close second with 15 while the AAP, MGP and others make up eight seats.
India TV-C-Voter has given wide margins giving the BJP 15-21 seats, the Congress 12-18, the AAP 0-4 while others 2-8. Margins as large as this are often the difference between government and opposition.
India News - MRC has given the BJP 15, The Congress 10, the AAP 7 while others 8.
India Today - Axis has predicted that the BJP will get around 18-22, Congress 9-13, the AAP 0-2 and Others 4-9.
On average it would mean the BJP has secured 17 seats, the Congress 7, the AAP 4 and Others 6.
On the other hand NDTV’s Poll of Polls predicted 18 seats for the BJP, 12 for the Congress and 4 for the AAP.
In a high-stake electoral contest, Goa went to polls on February 4. The BJP which was ruling the state hopes to repeat the 2012 election result retaining most of the 40 seats to remain in power. AAP which is being seen as a new player may also take everyone by surprise.
Counting of votes is scheduled to be taken up on
March 11.
