The residents complained that the contractor appointed by the panchayat for collection of garbage on door-to-door basis does not accept broken glass items.
Sarpanch Amarnath Govekar replied that the contractor will not collect broken glass items. “Residents can deposit it in the premises of Pilerne Panchayat. The Goa State Pollution Control Board has agreed to lift it from the panchayat premises,” informed Govekar.
A few residents said the panchayat should make arrangement to collect garbage littered along the roadside. To this, the sarpanch replied that it is not possible for the panchayat to collect roadside garbage everyday.
“The panchayat has made arrangements to collect garbage on door-to-door basis, and hence there is no need for the residents to throw garbage by the side of the road. People must have some civic sense,” added Govekar.
A villager, Paul Fernandes raised the issue of frequent disruption of power at Volwado.
“There are power outages at least 10 times in a day, and electrical equipment get damaged owing to high voltage,” said Fernandes.
Govekar assured to carry out an inspection of the area with officials of electricity department and do the needful.
The residents also raised the issue of repairs and widening of roads. Govekar said hotmixing and maintenance of major roads are carried out by PWD, while minor works such as asphalting of road, etc, are undertaken by the panchayat.
Panchayat secretary Dinesh Chodankar presented the estimated budget of Rs 3.64 crore prepared by the panchayat for 2017-18 and requested the villagers to give their suggestions to the panchayat within 15 days.
Earlier, Sarpanch Govekar welcomed the villagers and panchayat secretary Chodankar read out the minutes of the gram sabha held on November 6, 2016.
