Ex-MLA Agnel plays ekla chalo tune

Senior Congress General Secretary and former MLA Agnel Fernandes played the tune of “ekla chalo” for the survival of the grand old party in the long run.

 “If the Congress party has to grow, we should go alone and refrain from forging any alliance with other parties,” Fernandes said. According to Fernandes, alliance may give some short term gains but in the long run the party will suffer and may even lose relevance. “Congress should fight the 2017 election alone even at the cost of sacrificing government formation,” the former MLA said without mincing words. He said people who were promoting mahagatbandhan were scared of securing their own seats and were cutting deals with other parties. “What is the stand of those who are endorsing the grand alliance on the crucial MoI issue? One of them is pro-Konkani, another pro-Marathi and the third is pro-English…Can we have an alliance with people who have such diverse view on a crucial issue,” he questioned further.

MAPUSA Virtually snubbing calls for mahagatbandhan, Congress blocks have begun the process to short-list candidates in the State and is expected to complete the exercise by July 31.
