After a recent end to their rivalry, Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho got former Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) chairperson Kritesh Gaonkar appointed as vice-president of Dabolim BJP mandal.

Gaonkar and Godinho were once political rivals, with Gaonkar even contesting assembly elections against Godinho on the NCP ticket in 2017.

Gaonkar, who could not contest the municipal elections on account of ward reservations, had even got his friend, Leo Rodrigues, elected from his ward in Dabolim constituency against a candidate fielded by Godinho.

The two leaders, however, ended their rivalry recently and Gaonkar has now pledged his support to Godinho in Dabolim constituency.

When contacted, Gaonkar said all previous differences have been buried and he would extend all support to Godinho in the upcoming assembly elections and any other works taken up by him.

"When I was chairperson of MMC, I had joined the BJP but somehow there was no unity due to differences, but the situation is changed now.”

“As vice president of Dabolim BJP Mandal, I will work beyond my best to strengthen the party and join hands with Godinho to bring about development in my constituency " said Gaonkar.
