OLD GOA
After being denied ticket by the Congress for St Cruz constituency, former MLA Victor Gonsalves resigned from the party and joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) at a function in the city on Thursday.
Present during the induction of Gonsalves into the TMC were its leaders TMC MP and Goa in-charge Mahua Moitra, MP Sushmita Dev, St Cruz leader Kishore Narvekar, Pratibha Borkar and Om Prakash Mishra.
Speaking at the induction function, Moitra said, “We hope that together we can defeat the BJP in Goa, which is our one and only goal.”
On his part, Gonsalves said he had left Congress because there is no future for Congress in Goa. “There is no organisation of the Congress at the ground level. Also, the loyalists of Congress are sidelined and they have no place in the party due to which they are leaving the party,” Gonsalves alleged.
“People in St Cruz are angry for giving a candidate who is not acceptable to them,” he added.
Further, Gonsalves heaped praises on TMC chief Mamta Banerjee and said she will be the next prime minister of India.
On whether he would contest in St Cruz on TMC banner, Gonsalves said, “If they find that I am a suitable candidate for the TMC, then I am willing to contest on its ticket in St Cruz.”
