MMC hit as manpower requisitioned for poll duty

MARGAO
With the Model Code of Conduct in force and the election authorities bracing up to conduct the Assembly polls on February 14, the Margao Municipal Council seemed to have been badly hit with the authorities requisitioning civic manpower for poll duties.

Sources in the know informed that the election authorities have requisitioned as many as 23 Municipal staff, including clerical, drivers and workers for the poll duties.

The administration is also believed to have requisitioned vehicles for duties, with the Model Code of Conduct coming into force in the State.

Municipal officials pointed out that the administration may be hit adversely with the election authorities requisitioning the staff for poll duties. “We will have to work with the existing arrangement with our staff and workers requisitioned for poll duties,” a senior MMC official remarked.

In fact, in the past, the civic body had moved the district authorities to relieve certain staffers in order to carry out the day-to-day administration.
