SANGUEM
Goa's famous Bubble Lake (Budbudyanchi Tali) near the historic Gopinath Temple in Netravali, Sanguem, has fallen into a state of neglect, with locals expressing concern over the deteriorating condition of one of the State's unique natural and tourist attractions.
Known for its rare natural phenomenon where water bubbles continuously rise to the surface, the lake attracts both domestic and foreign tourists.
Situated adjacent to the ancient Gopinath Temple, believed to be associated with an incarnation of Lord Krishna, the site holds significant religious, historical and tourism value.
Few years ago, the tourism department undertook a beautification project at the site, spending lakhs of rupees to develop visitor amenities, including seating benches, tiled walkways and landscaped surroundings. However, residents allege that after the initial development, little attention was paid to its upkeep.
The benches are now broken, tiles damaged and unchecked growth of grass, bushes and weeds have left the tourist spot in a neglected condition.
Locals allege the lack of regular maintenance has not only diminished the beauty of the site but has also resulted in the wastage of public funds invested in its development.
Residents have appealed to Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte and tourism department to take immediate steps to restore and maintain the Bubble Lake premises.
They have requested authorities to clear the overgrown vegetation, repair damaged infrastructure and ensure regular maintenance so that the attraction remains welcoming to visitors.
Locals have also demanded that the tourism department installs informative signboards highlighting the history, cultural importance and unique bubbling phenomenon of Budbudyanchi Tali.
