the kitchen walls of their house at Mastimoll collapsed on Wednesday evening, destroying the structure and other utilities.
According to Canacona fire services, the incident occurred at about 3.45 pm when the two kitchen mud walls of a 50-year-old house belonging to one Reginald D’Souza of Mastimoll collapsed, leading to the roof of the house crashing down. Luckily, none of the occupants were injured in the incident even though they were present in the house.
According to fire service personnel, the entire kitchen roof collapsed, burying and destroying a fridge, cupboards, kitchen utensils, and other valuables in two rooms. Canacona fire station in-charge Francisco Mendes, firemen S K Desai, Ulhas Gaonkar, Molu Velip, S K Gaonkar, B C Gaonkar and V P Naik rushed to the site, and helped the family to clear the debris, but they could not salvage much of the valuables. Canacona fire services rated the incident as major in nature as the family has suffered a loss pegged above Rs. 50,000.
