Family rivalry politicised, says Lobo

VASCO

Calangute MLA Michael Lobo on Sunday said that politucising a family rivalry out of proportion and arresting people by making it a political issue was not correct and that the Congress would take this issue up in the assembly session because police must not victimise people under political pressure.

" We have found that the incident was between two familes of Mayekar and Bhagat who are relatives and they have around ten cases against each other in the past. The fight was between two families and now even the people who were watching the fight or who were not even present have been arrested and this indicates political pressure. This is not right and the opppsition must now accept that Sankalp Amonkar is the MLA and not target his supporters with cases just because they are in power, " said Lobo

"This incident has led to the registration of cases on so many people and the court granted bail and the people were released but the police have registered another case on them under the same sections and this is wrong. A simple incident on Holi has been blown out of proportion and given a political colour and all the state leaders arrived at Mormugao Police station and went to the Hospital and deployed around 500 police to show an environment of fear in this area, " said Lobo.

"They want to show that they have arrested the supporters of Sankalp Amonkar to put a fear in the minds of others not to roam with Amonkar or support him. I appeal to the people of the taluka to maintain peace and not fall prey to wrong mesages on social media and we have told the.police not to work under political pressure.  We condemn the incident and we will take this up in the assembly because police must not victimise Goans under political pressure, " said Lobo.
